Cinematic Sky were commissioned by Outdoor NI to create a promotional video showcasing the amazing International Appalachian Trail - a 600+ mile walk connecting the Appalachian mountains in America with Ireland and Scotland. The Irish part of the trail stretches from the bottom of Donegal right across Northern Ireland, cutting through some of the island’s most stunning sites, from the epic cliffs of Slieve League, to the wilderness of the Sperrin mountains; from the world famous Causeway Coast to the breathtaking Glens of Antrim.

The International Appalachian Trail (IAT) Ulster–Ireland is part of an international walking trail that follows the Appalachian Mountain terrain, which existed on the super continent Pangaea before the Atlantic Ocean formed that broke up the continent. The Ulster-Ireland section totals 279 miles (449 km) in length, was established in 2011, launched in 2013 and continues the trail after it leaves the North American continent. Watch the video below.

Filming took place during 6 days spread over 2 months as a small creative team from Cinematic Sky - Creative Director Tony Carlin on Drone & ground camera supported by William Ayton on gimbal for movement shots - worked closely with Outdoor NI and several models to film the various locations involved.

Aerial filming was captured using two drones - DJI Inspire 2 and the Mavic 3 Cine, both operated by main drone pilot Tony Carlin . The Inspire was used primarily when out in the open countryside while the Mavic 3 Cine is the perfect drone for shooting around smaller towns, villages and when looking to fly in very close proximity to people due to its amazing stabilization and handling. Both aircrafts can capture RAW video Prores in 5.4k and 5.1k respectively which resulted in some truly stunning footage.

The final film was edited by Fiachra O’Longain with a full 2 minute version created for Youtube as well as a shorter 1 minute version specially created for audiences on Instagram including in ‘reels’ format for Insta stories. The video is to be heavily promoted in the American market to promote tourism in Ireland
